Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500 Preview

At the very first look, you may mistake the Royal Enfield Bullet Classic as a 1951 model. But it's not that model at all. It is a blend of post world war II motorcycle and gen next bike. Several things remained the same as a vintage motorcycle such as 'Roar of engine', deep and wide design of front and rear fender, covered headlamp, seating, fuel tank, silencer, spoke wheels, tail lamp and air filer box. So let's welcome the Classic cum Stylish motorcycles in India. Graphics are pasted on fuel tank and air filter box. Air filter box houses the name of the machine- Classic 500. The company abbreviation form 'RE' is carved at the engine for the first time in Royal Enfield bikes. And the name of the engine is also inscribed at there-Twinspark EFI 500. Royal Enfield monogram is also there on the middle of the tank.

The classic round headlmap of the motorcycle is covered by a steel cap on it. This is also borrowed from the post world war II motorcycle. Even it is a traditional headlamp but used a powerful halogen bulb that gives a clear vision of the road ahead. Tail lamp also reflects the old era. Brake light is positioned between the rear side turn indicators. The new Classic comes with a traditional analogue cluster. The dashboard of Royal Enfield Bullet Classic comprises of mainly two dials- Speedometer and fuel gauge. Malfunction Indicator lamp is fitted at the right side of the headlamp casing. At the left side of the console, ignition is fitted.

The traditional thigh pads are provided at the both side of the fuel tank with traditional company name. The number plate of the bike also resembles the post second world war motorcycles. Like the twinspark EFI 500cc engine, the springs of the rider's seat is visible. Rear mudguard of the tyre is deep drawn again as post war era. Silencer and legguard also looks classic.


Engine:


Royal Enfield Bullet Classic engine view Picture Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500cc is powered by a refined Single Cylinder, 4 Stroke, OHV, SI Engine, Air cooled, Electronic Fuel Injection and Unit Construction Engine (UCE) power mill that develops a maximum power of 27.2 bhp at 5250 rpm while it churns out more torque that is 41.3 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engineers of the company fitted the gearbox and clutch outside and both are assembled into the crankcase. Apart from this, Unit Construction Engine (UCE) allows the big beast less moving parts, less maintenance problems and less transmission loss.

Moreover, the Electronic Fuel Injection technology does its job in a nice way to faster the response of the engine to suit road. In addition to this, the EFI technology ensure lower emission, engine diagnostic capabilities, better reliability, better power output and excellent cold start ability. The company used EFI instead of traditional carburetor.The bike comes loaded with five speed gearbox with left side gear shift. The gear shifting pattern is 1-N-2-3-4-5. The maximum pay load of the bike is 178 kg while the curb weight is 182 kg.


Acceleration:

Fuel Efficiency:

Since it is higher cc bike, you can't expect more than this. See the advantages of Electronic Fuel Injection technology- faster response of the engine to suit road, better power output, lower emission, better reliability and excellent cold start ability. The Classic bike sports 13.5 litres fuel tank with a reserve of 2.5 litres.




Colours:


The new avatar of Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500cc is available in three classic shades. The stunning shades are black, sky blue and red. The body colour is painted at front mudguard, fuel tank, air filter box, utility box and rear fender. The stylish silencer and engine is coloured in silver. But as usual, the seat is in black. The seat is splited for pillion. Brakes:


Royal Enfield Bullet Classic disk brake view Picture Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500cc comes loaded with front disc brakes. The specification of the front disc brake is- Hydraulic disc brake 280mm. On the other hand, this big beast sports 153mm drum type brake at rear. The front disc brake is widest and have enough capacity to halt the motorcycle immediately.







Suspension:

You can adjust the rear shock absorbers for different surfaces. The riding experience on the Classic would be a memorable one with advanced disc brake and gas filled fork.








Wheels and Tyres:

Now the new Royal Enfield Classic 500cc boasts of 18 inch wheels that ensure better riding and handling. The avon speedmaster tyres are refined for higher speed and superb handling. However, Royal Enfield retained the trademark traditional spoke wheels. The specifications of the front and rear tyres are 90X90-18 and 110X90-18 respectively.









Wheel Base and Controlling:


Royal Enfield used widest wheelbase for the Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500cc. The wheelbase is 1370mm. You can assure of better grip on road for the widest wheelbase. In view to provide smart control over the bike, the company has equipped it with front disc brake and gas filled shockers. Under the rider's seat, Roll over Sensor is fitted that works in a case of accident or skidding. The Roll over Sensor will switch off ignition and cut off fuel supply that will prevent the motorcycle from moving suddenly if it is gear.




Comfortness:

For the rider's comfort, thigh pad are pasted at both end of the fuel tank. In addition to this, disc brake, gas filled adjustable fork and wider wheelbase is provided. Seat is splited for the passenger. Seats are wide and comfortable with spring support that provides maximum comfort. You can fit the pillion seat when you require. Footpegs are there for both the riders. Roll over Sensor avoid big damage to the bike and you. It switches off the ignition and cut off the petrol supply in case of skidding. You can again switch on the sensor after the unexpected. Malfunction indicator lamp informs you about any malfunction in your bike.


Pros:


Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500cc is the finest bike that Royal Enfield brought in India. It has latest features like Electronic Fuel Injection system, disc brake, self start, gas filled shocker and a refined engine.


Con:


Royal Enfield Bullet Classic 500cc should have rear side disc brakes that is desirable in a higher cc motorcycle. Digital dashboard would be a welcome feature.

  2. hello friends... i m a great fan of BULLET and wanna buy one. i thought of this model months bak and loved it... now its hereand i wanna own the baby...cud you please help me to go for which one... 350 or 500 classic.. and wat is the diff b/w EFI and Digital TCI and which one of these fuel injection techniques is better... ?

  4. @venkat....... Nope... You can beat the hell outta most 150 cc bikes and only the Pulsar (upper spec) and the Karizma can beat the bullet to accelaration... Am of couorse not including the superbikes and the 250cc KawasakiGo for the 500, its quick AND fast

  5. One question is there any way to add a buddy seat to this bike. Though I like the solo look I have a feeling I think I will have to add another seat to it Damn. And how does it sound compared to an electra. Thats the only other bullet I have riden. Call me a pussy but Man bullet 350 is the most fun to ride out of that and electra. but I could never manage to kick start my friends bull.

  6. Ya wangyal, the silencer comes straight on purchase. You can however get the curved silencer, and fit it on ur bike once its registered. The straight silencer is because its got to be acceptable under Bharath III norms. :)

    I was a proud owner of an original Royal Enfield and it is still going strong with a cousin. The Delhi police fined me for clocking 110 kmph on the old Palam roadi n 1967. The only painful thing was changing the rear wheel after a cture, I hope they have improved on this score. A 500 cc bike should be able to do much more than 124k mph

    one of my friend advised me that, model start from royal enfield thunder bird are making a vibrational noise in engine during ideal position of the bullet. whether the same problem is occurring in 2009 Classic 500CC??

  9. bullet classic350 is not very different from thunderbird. main diference are 1. bend silencer.2. single spring seat.3. wheel size.the new model has no ampere meter, its very surprising. thanks
