Not allowed to buy their favourite motorcycle, the Royal Enfield, three youths including two wrestlers allegedly stole their dream motorcycles. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested them on Tuesday.
The police said the youths stole five motorcycles of the same make. They were arrested from Sira sopur-Badli Road in Outer Delhi on Monday after police received an input about the activities of a gang of vehicle-thieves operating in Rohini.
“The arrested have been identified as Abhishek Aggarwal (19), degree student, and two wrestlers Vishal (20) and Hardeep Singh (19),” said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
During the police interrogation, the three youths said that they were into stealing vehicles for the past five months.
“The youth also confessed that they stole motorcycles for joyride and fun. They were fond of riding Enfield Bullets. They had stolen three Bullets and two other motorcycles in the past five months,” Chand said, adding, “They used to hunt for Bullets and break the handle locks. After the lock was broken, they connected the ignition wires and flee with it. The entire exercise used to take less than few minutes.”
Aggarwal is a first year degree student and met the wrestlers through a common friend. Vishal, the gang leader, and Singh, are getting trained in an ‘akhara’ in Ghanta Ghar area. Vishal stood third at the national U-16 wrestling championship four years ago.
“He was apprehended on charges of molestation in 2007. He took to stealing bullets because of his passion for two-wheelers,” Chand said.
In another incident, two youths were arrested in Hauz Qazi on Monday for their alleged involvement in a series of vehicle theft cases. Six cases were solved with their arrest and seven motorcycles were recovered from them. The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Wasim (26) and Adil Farad (25).
